Appalachian State University softball head coach Shae Wesley has announced the fall schedule for the 2013 season. The Mountaineers will play four away games and
one home game at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium
The Apps will begin the fall season by taking on Winthrop and Presbyterian in a double-header on Saturday, Sept. 21 in Rock Hill, S.C. It is scheduled to start at 1:15 p.m.
Appalachian continues fall play in Rock Hill the next day, Sept. 22, by playing USC Upstate and Spartanburg Methodist in another double-header at 1:15 p.m. The Black and Gold will return to the High Country for the last fall game on Sept. 29 against Lenoir-Rhyne at 1 p.m.
Appalachian State and Winthrop met four times in the 2013 spring season with App taking three of the four games. The Mountaineers also played USC Upstate once in 2013, winning the game 6-3.
The 2013 Conference Champions will lose two seniors from last season’s roster, including outfielder Allie Cashion who was named Southern Conference Player of the year in 2013. Cashion set career records at Appalachian for doubles (51), RBI (183) and total bases (370). The Mountaineers will also lose utility player Meghan Smith who saw action in 46 games last season.
The Black and Gold will return second team all-conference catcher Sarah Warnock, who closed the 2013 regular season with a team-high .383 batting average. The Jamestown, N.C. native compiled 13 doubles, three home runs and 20 RBI on the season.
Eighteen other returners from the 2013 roster join Warnock, including catcher Alex Sohl and pitcher Shivaun Landeros, who both earned all-freshmen honors last season.
