L-R Women Outlasts Pfeiffer, 3-2 PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team (2-0) scored late in the contest to hold on for a 3-2 win over Pfeiffer (0-2) Sunday afternoon on the final day of the L-R Classic at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.
L-R sophomore forward Leah Mullins (Kissimmee, Fla.) broke a 2-2 tie with the game-winning goal with just under 11 minutes left to lift the Bears to the win.
Sophomore midfielder Garcelle Alequine (Wilmington, Del.) assisted on the play for the Bears, who won despite losing a 2-0 advantage at halftime.
Pfeiffer tied the match with a pair of goals in the second half courtesy of Aaliyah Jackson (Statesville, N.C.) and Brae Buster (Raleigh, N.C.). Buster's goal came with just under two minutes before Mullins tallied the match-winning score.
Junior defender Hanna Kiebel (Parker, Colo.) opened the scoring for Lenoir-Rhyne in the fifth minute after finishing off a pass from Mullins down the left side. Mullins was credited with the assist on the play.
L-R sophomore midfielder Kendall Smith (Asheville, N.C.) gave the Bears a 2-0 advantage at the 26:43 mark of the first half when she launched the ball from over 20 yards out outside the box and over the goalkeeper's hands for the score before the Lady Falcons rallied to tie it.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior goalkeeper Genny Little (Fredericksburg, Va.) played the second half and pick up the win for the Bears. Little finished with four saves while Pfeiffer's Kate Halligan (Tempe, Ariz.) suffered the loss in goal. Halligan notched five saves on the afternoon.
Newberry (2-0) defeated Lees-McRae (0-2) by a 2-0 score in the first contest of the classic on Sunday. Lenoir-Rhyne next faces Tampa in the Columbus State Collegiate Invitational in Columbus, Ga., on Friday at 2:00 p.m. Pfeiffer faces UNC Pembroke on Wednesday on the road starting at 6:00 p.m.


Bears Fall In Double OT to Falcons



Pfeiffer (1-0-1) handed Lenoir-Rhyne (1-1) its first loss of the season in men's soccer with a 1-0 victory in double overtime Sunday afternoon at N.E. Lefko Field.
The Falcons' Simon Leslie (Newburgh, SCOTLAND) scored the lone goal of the match at the 102:31 mark in the second overtime to lift Pfeiffer to the win.
Leslie scored from about 12 yards out off a pass from Luke Janes (Morrisville, N.C.), who was credited with the assist on the play.
Lenoir-Rhyne lost despite holding a 20-14 advantage in shots taken while Pfeiffer's Nicolas Dulac (Lyon, FRANCE) earned the win in goal with the shutout victory.
Dulac stopped 10 shots to preserve the triumph. Meanwhile, senior goalkeeper Stefan Dill (Southampton, BERMUDA) suffered the loss for the Bears despite allowing just one score to go along with three saves.
Lenoir-Rhyne next plays USC Aiken on the road on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., in Aiken, S.C.
L-R won't be at home again until Wednesday, September 18, against North Georgia beginning at 5:00 p.m. Pfeiffer, meanwhile, travels to Morrow, Ga., on Friday to face Clayton State beginning at 7:30 p.m.
