L-R XC Opens Season At The Eye Opener Invitational PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams opened the 2013 season Friday evening at the Eye Opener Invitational at Milliken Research Park. On the women's side, the Bears finished fourth out of 12 teams and were led by sophomore Grace Turner (Lincolnton, N.C.). Turner placed 12th overall among NCAA Division II runners with a time of 20:19 over the 5K course. Meanwhile, sophomore Paige Smith (Ramseur, N.C.) was the Bears' second-best runner in the meet as she ran a 20:47 to finish 18th on the evening.
For the Lenoir-Rhyne men, sophomore Zach Millsaps (Statesville, N.C.) placed 17th over the 8K course with a time of 27:41 as the Bears were ninth overall out of 13 schools as a team. Senior Mike Ryan (Leetsdale, Pa.) ran a 28:27, good for a 33rd-place finish overall for L-R.
Wingate (women) and King (men) were the top D-II schools in the race while Davidson (women) and USC Upstate (men) won the NCAA Division I races, respectively.
The L-R Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams return to action on Saturday, September 21, in the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C., beginning at 9:00 a.m.
