P.J. Hairston, the University of North Carolina's leading scorer, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of speeding and an unsafe movement violation in Rowan County Court Tuesday. He was cited for reckless driving in July 28. Hairston was cited for doing 93 miles-an-hour on Interstate 85.
Rowan County District Judge Kevin Eddinger accepted the plea for driving 75 mph in a 65 mph zone from attorney T. Gregory Jones. Hairston, who didn't attend the hearing, was required to pay a $40 fine and court costs. This was Hairston's third off-court misstep this offseason. He was cited twice in a month while driving a rental vehicle linked to a felon. He was driving a car registered to a friend when he was cited in July.
Hairston, who was the preseason favorite to be named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, has been suspended indefinitely by head men's basketball coach Roy Williams and the university.
