Appalachian State sophomore Meghan Mahoney (Leawood, Kan./Blue Valley) has been named the Southern Conference volleyball Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday, September 2.
Mahoney, a libero and defensive specialist, led the Mountaineers defensively with 55 digs in nine games played, averaging 6.11 per game. Mahoney recorded match-high digs against each of Appalachian’s three opponents, including 22 digs versus Loyola, 21 against Sam Houston State and 12 versus Norfolk State.
Mahoney helped the Mountaineers to a 3-0 record after opening their 2013 campaign with the Appalachian Invitational, where she recorded an ace each against Sam Houston State and Norfolk State.
With match-highs against Loyola and SHSU, Mahoney already topped her freshman record of 12 against Houston and Georgetown in 2012.
