|ASU Women’s Soccer Defeats Southern Utah|

Applachian State University women’s soccer was victorious in its second game of the Colorado College
Invitational. The Mountaineers played in their first game ever against the Thunderbirds of Southern Utah and came away with a 2-1 victory on Sunday. The win marks the first in 2013 for App State.
App State’s offense was in full force against the T-Birds. Appalachian registered 16 shots with a staggering 10 on goal.
The scoring was started in the second half by App State’s Sam Neill. It was the 53rd minute on an assist from both Amber Miller and Sonia Sanchez for Neill’s first goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.
Nearly 10 minutes later in the 63rd minute, Julia Holz tallied her third goal of the season on a breakaway for a 2-0 App State lead.
Southern Utah would score seven minutes later in the 70th minute on a goal by Aurora Moberly. The Mountaineers were able to hang on with strong defense throughtout to earn their first win of the season.
Amy Kolowksy got the starting nod in goal for Sarah Strickland's squad. Kolowsky allowed just one goal while making four saves in the contest. The Mountaineers are back in action on Sept. 5th when they host UNC Asheville. Kick off is set for 7 p.m.
