Watson Leads Wolverines Over Avery PDF Print

Joey Watson turned in a strong performance Tuesday night as the Watauga Middle School football team opened the 2013 season with a bang. Watson scored twice on runs of 30-and-ten-yards, he scored a two point conversion and threw a pair of two-point conversion passes as the Wolverines (1-0) defeated Avery 30-13 in Newland, N.C.
Isaiah Finger scored on a 70-yard jaunt and caught a two-point conversion pass; Parker Morgan scored on a 30-yard run, and Jamie Gough caught a two-point conversion pass.
Defensively, Chase Scott, A.J. Martinez and Austin Phillips each had a quarterback sack; Phillips and Eli Suggs (the younger brother of Evan Suggs, a running back on the Watauga High JV team) eacha had a fumble recovery; Dale Holman, Damon Moretez and Scott were dominant on the defensive line.
The Wolverines will play their home opener at Jack Groce Stadium next Wednesday, September 4 against West Alexander.
