Holz Earns SoCon Player of Week PDF Print

Appalachian State University junior forward Julia Holz has been tabbed the

Southern Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for matches played Aug. 23-25   after tallying two goals last week in games against ETSU and Austin Peay – it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Holz scored in the eighth minute of the 2013 season on a beautiful through ball assist by Sam Neilland was able to capitalize and give the Mountaineers a lead they would never relinquish. Holz also scored on Sunday afternoon against Austin Peay in the 54th minute on an assist by Jenna Caudle to close the gap to a one goal deficit. The Marietta, Ga. native closed out both games totaling eight shots – four of them on target.
"Julia has really worked hard all summer to prepare for this season," said fourth-year head coach Sarah Strickland. "She played so well this weekend along with the rest of our forwards and we are so proud to have her recognized and our team recognized with such a huge honor."
The junior currently leads the team with two goals and four points on the season. Holz scored the most goals in 2012 with eight, including three game-winning goals.
Holz was also selected as a Player of the Week honoree last season. Holz and the rest of the Mountaineers will be back in action on Friday when they take part in the Colorado College Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colorado with a match against host Colorado College at 6 p.m. (EST).
