Chasteen Powers Pioneers Past West PDF Print

Tucker Chasteen has picked up right where Alex Parsons left off. Chasteen scored three more goals

Monday night as the Watauga High soccer team knocked off West Caldwell 4-2 in a non-conference game in Gamewell, N.C.
His header ball at the 59-minute mark of the second half snapped a 1-1 tie. Cam Linnville, who had two assists on the night, set it up with a throw in. Chasteen tallied again three minutes later to give the Pioneers (4-0) a commanding 3-1 lead.
"Tucker is off to a great start," WHS coach Woody McKay said following the game. "We're finding ways to get him open, and we're getting him the ball in the right spots. That throw in by Cam was perfect and Tucker finished it off."
Justin Hall got WHS on the board with a goal at the 23-minute mark of the first half. Goalkeeper Jake Chasteen picked up an assist on the play. But the Warriors tied things up early in the second half before Tucker Chasteen broke the contest open.
"These guys played us tough last year (a 1-1 tie in Boone)," McKay said. "And we were playing on tall grass tonight, too. It slowed us down some. We've been so use to turf (with two home games and Friday's match at Avery). But we still managed to pull out a win. It's early, though. I'm glad we're off to a good start, but there's still a lot of games left on the schedule, and (Northwestern 3A/4A) conference isn't too far away (the conference opener will be at Hibriten on September 9)."
Justin Hall also picked up an assist on the night. The JV team played West Caldwell to a scoreless tie. The Pioneers travel to Wilkes Central Wednesday night. They return home to play A.C. Reynolds on Friday.

NOTES: Sophomore starters, Nick Kellner, broke his collar bone on a hard tackle.
