The Lees-McRae College women's basketball team will face a challenging and

diverse schedule this winter, squaring off against a strong NCAA Division I program in addition to traveling to the  other end of the country for a once-in-a-lifetime tournament, announced head coach Michele Williams Friday.
With four promising newcomers and a veteran returning core, the Bobcats are primed to take the next step this season in Williams' second year at the helm. The Bobcats posted a 9-16 record last season and a two-win improvement in Conference Carolinas play, while registering a pair of hard-fought two-point victories over Mount Olive College and Queens University of Charlotte.
"I am excited about this year's season," said Williams. "I think we have a great mix of non-conference and conference games that should be great competition for our team. We could not be more excited about our trip to Alaska over Thanksgiving. We will be able to play against strong competition and also see have a little fun too."
Lees-McRae will open the season on Saturday, November 9 against Lenoir-Rhyne University in Jefferson City, Tenn. as part of the South Atlantic Conference/Conference Carolinas Challenge, and will then square off against host Carson-Newman College on Sunday.
The Bobcats will open their home schedule on Wednesday, November 13 when they host Mars Hill College before making the short trip to Boone, N.C. that Friday to square off against Appalachian State University in an exhibition contest. Lees-McRae will take the court in Williams Gymnasium again on Tuesday, November 19 against Young Harris College, and will play at Young Harris four days later in the second leg of a home-and-home.
Williams and the Bobcats will make the trip of a lifetime over the Thanksgiving Holiday, traveling to Fairbanks, Alaska to take part in the North Star Invitational, hosted University of Alaska at Fairbanks. The Bobcats will kick off the weekend against Wayne State University (Mich.) on November 28, followed by host Alaska Fairbanks on the 29th and Dominican University (Calif.) on the 30th.
Lees-McRae will open conference play on the road against Converse College on December 3 before making the trek to Bristol, Tenn. to take on King University. The Bobcats then close out the 2013 calendar year at Wingate University on December 20.
Lees-McRae will kick off 2014 with a January 4th trip to Belmont, N.C. at Belmont Abbey College. The Bobcats then return to Williams Gymnasium for six of their next seven games, including matchups with Erskine College (Jan. 8), Pfeiffer University (Jan. 11), Barton College (Jan. 15), North Greenville (Jan. 18), King (Jan. 25), and Limestone College (Jan. 29).
After a trip to Pfeiffer on February 1 and a home tilt with Converse on February 6, the Bobcats will hit the road for three games, traveling to Erskine (Feb. 8), North Greenville (Feb. 12), and Barton (Feb. 15), before returning to Williams Gymnasium for a February 19 tilt with Mount Olive.
Lees-McRae will celebrate senior day on February 22 against Belmont Abbey before closing out the regular season with a February 25 trip to Limestone.
