Pioneers Blank Huskies In Opener PDF Print

The Watauga High boy's soccer team picked up right where it left off last season with a convincing 4-0 season-opening win Monday night against Ashe County in a non-conference game at Jack Groce Stadium.
Logan Raichle scored the only goal WHS (1-0) need when he tallied at the 14-minute mark of the first off a direct kick. The Pioneers built a 3-0 lead by halftime and coasted home. Raichle finished with two goals and an assist; Tucker Chasteen scored twice; Justin Hall and Cam Linnville each had an assist.
The JV team (1-0) blanked Ashe County 3-0 in their season opener. Chase Palm scored twice to pace the Pioneers; Kobe Araica scored once; Freddy Aguilera had an assist. The Pioneers travel to McDowell Wednesday night.


WHS VOLLEYBALL WINS SEASON OPENER AGAINST ASHE COUNTY


The Watauga High volleyball team opened its season with a 3-0 sweep of Ashe County Monday night at Lentz-Eggers Gym. The Pioneers prevailed 15-14, 25-12, 25-18. Rebecca Hayes backboned WHS (1-0) with 11 kills in 12 attempts. She also had three blocks. Sarah Combs had 21 assists; Whitney Dunnigan had nine assists. Sarah Petersen had four kills and three aces and Meredith Farthing had six assists.
WHS won the JV match, 2-0. The Pioneers won 25-10, 25-5. Brynne Gould had five kills and six aces; Taylor McCune had three kills; Olivia Williamson had seven aces; Savannah Rusher had nine assists, and Reina Marze had five assists.
The Pioneers take on North Surry at Lentz Eggers Gym today.

WHS TENNIS RAINED OUT



The Watauga High girl's tennis team had its season opener with Ashe County rained out on Monday. The match will be played Thursday at 4:30 p.m., at the WHS Tennis Courts. The Pioneers, led by first-year coach Beth Watts, take on Mount Airy in their season opener this afternoon at 4 p.m.
