ASU Women's Soccer Blanks Longwood PDF Print

Appalachian State University women’s soccer was victorious on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Longwood Lancers by a score of 1-0. The goal for the Mountaineers was scored by Samantha Childress in the 58th minute off a 25-yard free kick. Childress recorded four shots on goal with two on target. Julia Holz and Merlin Beckwith each tallied two shots, both of Beckwith’s were on net. Kate Ward and Jaclyn Nieradka each had one shot on goal.
Megan Roberson earned the shutout by once again occupying the net for App State. Roberson played all 90 minutes and recorded one save, which came on a shot by Kelsey McDonald.
Appalachian had eight corner kick opportunities in the match while Longwood finished with five. The Apps outshot the Lancers by a 10-6 tally, including a 6-1 edge in shots on goal.
The Mountaineers are now finished with their preseason schedule and will now make preperations for the regular season opener on Friday, August 23rd against ETSU. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. from Appalachian Soccer Stadium.
