Power beat Crawdads 5-3 PDF Print

In a critical four-game series against Northern Division rival Hickory Crawdads, the West Virginia Power won the first game by a 5-3 final Friday night at Appalachian Power Park. Francisco Diaz led the Power offense with a pair of RBI hits.
The duo of Jonathan Schwind and Diaz combined for two runs for West Virginia.. In the second, Schwind drew a two-out walk, stole second, and scored on Diaz' single. Schwind and Diaz did it again in the fifth when Schwind walked to lead off the inning and Daiz hit a 1-1 double down the right field line, scoring Schwind that gave the Power a 2-0 advantage. Diaz advanced to third on an error and scored on an RBI groundout by Raul Fortunato.
West Virginia made it 5-0 in the fifth on two hits. Dilson Herrera hit an RBI sacrifice fly with two in scoring position and Jordan Steranka drove in Josh Bell to cap the Power scoring.
The Crawdads cut the Power lead to 5-3 after a three-run seventh. Joey Gallo hit a two-run shot with nobody out in the seventh. David Lyon hit an RBI sac fly to right, scoring Jorge Alfaro.
Bryton Trepagnier (5-4) received the win by tossing two innings, allowing three runs on three hits. Frank Lopez (2-7) received the loss for the Crawdads. Jhondaniel Medina earned the five-out save to collect his eighth save in as many opportunities this season.
Clay Holmes takes the bump for West Virginia Saturday evening against right-hander southpaw Andrew Faulkner. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. The first 1,000 fans to the ballpark when the gates open at 6:00 will receive a Back-to-School Lunchbox. Tickets are available at (304) 344-BATS
