Appalachian State University volleyball has been honored for the fourth-straight year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) with an AVCA Team Academic Award for its work in the classroom. The Mountaineers are one of 130 NCAA Division teams to be recognized for their academic prowess and join

Chattanooga, The Citadel and Western Carolina as the four Southern Conference teams to be honored.
"For another year, the players of Appalachian State Volleyball have shown great success in the classroom and I'm proud of them for earning the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 season," said head coach Matt Ginipro. "The players set the goals of having the highest team GPA in the department while earning this award every year and it's nice to work with a group who has the drive and focus to achieve those goals."
In order to earn an AVCA Team Academic Award, teams must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher. A total of 622 teams were honored this year as the awards list included squads from all three NCAA woman's divisions, NCAA men's volleyball, NAIA schools, two-year colleges, NCCAA institutions and high schools.
The 2012-13 academic year marked the highest-ever total of AVCA Team Academic Award recipients both in total number and NCAA Division I honorees.
Appalachian State's award marks the fourth-straight time it has been honored with the AVCA Team Academic Award and the fifth time under head coach Matt Ginipro.
