Phelps Lands On His Feet PDF Print

Former Watauga Highand Appalachian State University  graduate Jason Phelps has been named an assistant coach at Bunker Hill High by head coach Travis Conner on Monday.  Phelps has joined the Bears after two seasons as head coach at Foard. He will be the Bears’ defensive coordinator and teach strength and conditioning at the school, which includes weight-lifting classes. Phelps’ teams at Foard went 3-7 after picking up a forfeit win over Hickory and the Tigers were 2-8 last season. He was previously head coach at Bartlett Yancey (three years, 6-26 record), a defensive coordinator for nine seasons (at Rockingham County and Roxboro Person) and an assistant at Starmount for two years after coaching at Watauga for three years.
Phelps moves into the role of defensive coordinator at Bunker Hill after Ryan Gettys, the head football coach he replaced at Foard, returned to Foard to become the girls’ and boys’ tennis coach. Gettys had been on the Bunker Hill football staff the last two seasons, moving into the role of defensive coordinator during the 2012 season when John Mackey was sidelined by health issues.
Gettys has been named the new boy's and girl's tennis coach at Fred T. Foard,. where he was the head football coach for eight seasons (2003-10).
