Volleyball Head Coach Matt Ginipro announced the addition of Andrea Beck to his staff on Friday where she will serve as a volunteer assistant coach. Beck joins the Mountaineers after spending the past four seasons as a middle blocker at Wake Forest University. “I’m excited to announce that AJ will be joining our staff this season,” said Ginipro. “She was a fantastic player at Wake Forest and I’ve gotten to know her more as a coach this past summer while she was working our camps. There’s no doubt our team will benefit from her knowledge and experience as an ACC All-Conference player and as an Academic All-American. I’m looking forward to having her work with our middle hitter group right away when preseason starts up next week.”
As a member of the Demon Deacon’s women’s volleyball program, Beck led the squad in 2012 with 396 total kills while averaging 3.41 kills per set. She added 22 solo blocks and 77 block assists for the season as well. The Winston-Salem, N.C.-native completed her degree in biology with minors in chemistry and Spanish, and, with a grade point average of 3.96, Beck excelled on and off the court.
Head Coach Matt Ginipro (Virginia Tech, 1993) enters his seventh season leading the Mountaineers, who return five starters from last year’s squad but are looking for a fresh start after an uncharacteristic 7-23 record in 2012. Appalachian will open the regular-season on Aug. 30 at home against Loyola (Md.).
