Football season officially begins in the High Country on Friday when Appalachian State University football opens fall camp with its first practice of the year at Kidd Brewer Stadium. One-hundred and five players
reported for camp on Thursday afternoon, although the majority of the squad was already in town to take summer-school classes and participate in voluntary offseason workouts. After a series of meetings and other off-the-field obligations, the Mountaineers will hit the practice field for the first time on Friday afternoon. Friday’s practice is the first of 29 scheduled before Appalachian State’s much-anticipated season opener at Montana on Aug. 31.
On Saturday, Appalachian State holds its annual Media Day at Kidd Brewer Stadium. About a dozen local and regional media outlets are expected to be on hand to take part in the festivities.
App State TV will broadcast LIVE from Media Day on Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon. The Appalachian IMG Sports Network broadcast crew of David Jackson, Steve Brown and Randy Jackson will provide an in-depth preview of the 2013 campaign while speaking with a plethora of Mountaineer coaches and student-athletes, including first-year head coach Scott Satterfield. App State TV’s Media Day broadcast will also feature an interview with Sun Belt Conference commissioner Karl Benson.
The two-hour Media Day broadcast can be seen exclusively by App State TV premium subscribers. To subscribe, visit appstatesports.com/appstatetv.
Media Day and all Appalachian State football practices in 2013 are closed to the general public but fans can follow all of the action from the practice field at appstatesports.com, which will provide recaps, video reports and photo galleries throughout fall camp.
Fans also have the opportunity to see the Mountaineers in person when they hold their final intrasquad scrimmage before the opener at Montana as part of Fan Fest on Aug. 17 at Kidd Brewer Stadium. In addition to the scrimmage, Fan Fest features Appalachian State student-athletes, coaches and cheerleaders signing autographs and taking pictures with fans, face-painting, inflatable rides for kids and access to the Kidd Brewer Stadium playing field. For the first time, this year’s Fan Fest will be capped by a dazzling fireworks display. Gates open at 5 p.m. with the intrasquad scrimmage set for 7 p.m. and fireworks to follow the scrimmage. Admission is FREE.
