The Hickory Crawdads offense appeared to be out of gas in their finale against the Charleston RiverDogs Wednesday afternoon, as the 'Dads were shutout 2-0 to end their series with a 4-game split.

The 'Dads offense was held in check by RiverDogs pitchers Vicente Campos and Eric Wooten who threw five and four scoreless innings respectively to hand Hickory their 8th shutout defeat of the year.
The Crawdads did have several scoring opportunities throughout the game, but left runners at third base in the 1st, 2nd and 4th. The 'Dads also picked up leadoff hits by Jordan Akins and Jorge Alfaro in the sixth and seventh innings, only to have both runners picked off at first.
The RiverDogs, meanwhile, had 11 total hits in the game, but still had to scrape for their two runs. Their first tally game on a two-out, bloop single to center by DH Daniel Aldrich to score Ericson Leonora and give the 'Dogs a 1-0 lead. The score would stay the same all the way until the bottom of the 8th, when an error by Hickory third baseman Ryan Rua allowed Jake Cave to score for Charleston to make the score 2-0.
Hickory starting pitcher Frank Lopez (2-6) was the hard luck loser with only one run allowed on eight hits, one walk and three strikeouts over five innings pitched. Campos (2-2) earned the win for his shutout performance while Wooten (1) picked up the save for pitching the final four innings.
Alfaro led the 'Dads offense on the day going 3-4 with a double. Akins also had a multi-hit game finishing 2-4 while Chris Garia and David Lyon each went 1-4.
The Crawdads (60-49 overall; 21-18 in second-half play) will now leave Charleston (22-15) and return to Hickory to start a 7-game home stand against the Asheville Tourists and the Greensboro Grasshoppers. First pitch Thursday against the Tourists is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
