It's been a tough start for linebacker Jason Phillips and his new team, the Philadelphia Eagles.

Phillips, who played for the Carolina Panthers the last two years, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in training camp on Monday. Phillips is the second player the Eagles have lost for the season in the first week of training camp.
Phillips, signed from Carolina this offseason as a free agent, was carted off during this morning’s practice. He joins wide receiver Jeremy Maclin on the out-for-the-year list, making the Eagles the unluckiest team in the league so far.
Phillips, who has played for the Baltimore Ravens (2009-10), the Panthers, and the Eagles, played in 16 games for Carolina last year, mostly on special teams.
He spent his first 2½ seasons with Baltimore and was entering his fifth year in the NFL. Phillips has 17 tackles in 30 career games, including two starts for the Panthers last year.
