Maybin Hopes To Rejoin Padres Soon PDF Print

It's been a tough year for Cameron Maybin. The former T.C. Roberson High star, who was taken by the Detroit Tigers in the first round (tenth pick overall) in the 2006 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft,  has been hampered by a serious wrist and knee injury this season. Those setbacks have forced Maybin to miss 87 games for the San Diego Padres.
But there seems to be good news on the way. Maybin, who was thought to be out for the season, spent the weekend with Single-A Lake Elsinore. Though he didn’t play in a game, he took batting practice, ran the bases, and shagged balls in the outfield.
Maybin will join Triple-A Tucson for a rehab assignment, starting with an eight-game road trip to Memphis and Nashville. The Padres will evaluate his status then. Maybin has played in just 14 games, with 51 big-league at-bats, this season.
