The Hickory Crawdads hit their record-breaking 136th home run of the season Saturday night, with Hirotoshi Onaka lining a 3-run homer to right as a part of the 'Dads 4-3 win over the Kannapolis Intimidators. The line drive shot was the first of the year for Onaka, making him the 13th Crawdad to go deep this season. The record breaking blast was the 'Dads first since July 22nd, breaking their tie with the 2004 Crawdads.
In addition to breaking the team home run record, the Crawdads are also on pace to shatter the South Atlantic League record of 173 homers set by the 1998 Macon Braves. The 'Dads home run total currently ranks second in all of Minor League baseball, behind only the Stockton Ports of the California League with 144. Hickory 2B Ryan Rua is also currently tied with Buffalo Bison's 1B Mauro Gomez (AAA-Toronto) for the most homers by a single player this year.
