Fred T. Foard football coach Tom Harper added a new face to his coaching staff on Tuesday. He named Scott Williams the Tigers new quarterback coach.

Williams is the father of Tigers' quarterback Matt Williams, who tranferred to Fred T. Foard this summer. Scott Williams will be a non-faculty coach. He was approved by the Catawba County School Board.
Matt Williams, a rising junior, is playing at his third school in three years. Matt Williams, who joins his old coach at FTF (Harper was the head coach at Hickory last season), was the starting quarterback at St. Stephens his freshman year; he was the starting quarterback at Hickory last fall. Williams also led the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference in passing in 2012. Led by Harper and Matt Williams, the Red Tornadoes were 8-5 last year and reached the second round of the state playoffs.
Williams has thrown for 2,674 yards with 16 touchdown passes, and he's rushed for 1,003 yards and 13 TD in his career.
Meanwhile, first-year coach Wayne Hicks of St. Stephens, the defensive coordinator at Hickory last season and the former head coach at Lenior-Rhyne University (2002-06), added three new assistant coaches of his own on Tuesday. And two of them worked with Hicks as assistant at Hickory last year.
Eric Mendel, who coached the defensive line at HHS last fall, Steve Frye, who coached wide receivers at HHS, and John Grimes were added to the staff Monday. Frye, a non-faculty coach, was approved by the Catwaba County School Board.
