The 12-and-under Wilkes County All-Stars breezed through the state tournament last week with a 3-0 record against North Carolina’s best.  Up next, the Southeast Regional in  Warner Robins, Ga.

Wilkes will encounter the region’s top teams at the Southeast Regional Tournament, which gets underway Thursday, beginning with a contest against Florida.  Pool play continues Friday and Saturday with matchups scheduled against Georgia and South Carolina, respectively. It was just two summers ago that Wilkes’ 11- and 12-year-old squad finished second runner-up in the 2011 World Series.
The eldest of those players are now scattered amongst the county’s high schools, and two of them—Emily Visnic and Caitlin Shepherd—won a state title with West Wilkes less than two months ago.
