Regional Players Named Preseason All-State PDF Print

Rising Freedom senior Khris Gardin was selected to the preseason Class 3A all-state team. Listed on the squad as a kick/punt returner on the 32-member squad, Gardin became the first FHS wide receiver to register a 1,000-yard season. Gardin, who caught 64 passes for 1,157 yards with 14 touchdowns and a county-best 77.1 yards per game average last fall, made the team as a special teams player.
Gardin who also returns kick-offs and plays defensive back, had three kickoff returns for touchdowns. He also returned an interception for a TD. Gardin was named the 2012-13 Freedom male athlete of the year and he was an All-Southern Mountain Athletic Conference and All-County first team selection.
Running back Zac Pollard of South Caldwell, who ran for more than 3,000 yards last season, was named to the Class 4A all-state team. Cam Stinson of Hickory was named to the Class 3A team as an athlete, kick returner/punt returner Cole Cuthbertson of Madison was a Class 2A selection, and defensive back Tyler Polsgrove of Avery was named to the Class 1A team.
High school football practice officially begins on Thursday, August 1.
