Charges Against Hairston Dropped PDF Print

Drug and license charges against P.J. Hairston, a rising junior on the North Carolina University basketball team, from a traffic stop in Durham on June 5

have been dropped.
Hairston, UNC’s leading scorer last season, was driving a rented 2013 GMC Yukon along with passengers Miykael Faulcon, an Elizabeth City State basketball player, and former college basketball player Carlos Sanford.
All three were charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession, and Hairston was ticketed for driving without a license. Officers also discovered a 9mm handgun. The handgun was found outside the vehicle during the search. A Durham police spokeswoman has said there were no plans to file additional charges in the case.
Hairston obtained and completed a drug assessment and the state decided not to proceed based on those actions.
What remains outstanding are concerns with Hairston's ties to felon Haydn "Fats" Thomas, who rented the vehicle that Hairston was driving June 5; what relationship, if any, the NCAA might determine that Hairston has with Greensboro agent Rodney Blackstock; what penalties, if any, Hairston might face from the UNC athletics department.
