Hickory Crawdads 2B Ryan Rua has been named the South Atlantic League's Player of the Week for July 8-14th. Rua becomes the fifth Crawdads player to win a SAL weekly award this year, joining teammates
Tyler Smith (4/4-4/14), Nick Williams (4/15-4/21), Alexander Claudio (4/15-4/21), and Joey Gallo (6/10-6/16).
Rua, 23, posted a .368/.520/.895 slash line for the week, while also launching three home runs and driving in nine over the six-game span. Rua's week was highlighted on July 10th with a 2 HR, 6 RBI night that helped the 'Dads to an 11-7 win over Hagerstown. It was the sixth time this season Rua has posted a multi-homer game and the third time he's driven in six runs in a game.
For the season Rua is batting .260, with a SAL best 75 RBI and a Minor League best 28 home runs. A 17th round selection in the 2011 June draft out of Lake Erie College, Rua has been a driving force behind the Crawdads record setting home run pace, which currently sits at 132 for the year.
Rua's MiLB leading 28 home runs also makes him the front-runner for the Joe Bauman Home Run Award, presented by Musco Sports Lighting. The top regular season home run hitter in the domestic-based leagues wins the Joe Bauman Trophy and a check representing $200 for each long ball he hit.
