Kayaker Rescued at Elk Creek Falls PDF Print

The rushing rain-swollen waters around the area were too much temptation for kayakers yesterday, one who had to be rescued in a late afternoon all-out effort of Avery emergency services.  The call came in about a kayaker who was stranded on a rocky ledge on the far side of Elk Creek Falls, his kayak and gear carried far downstream by the rushing water.  Avery rescuers had just set up a two-pronged approach to reach the man when kayakers and the first rescuers figured a way to get the man safely across the rushing water, and he apparently suffered no serious injuries.
