Ben Howser, a two-year starter for the Watauga High boy's basketball team, will continue his basketball career at Sand Hills Community College this fall. Howser will walk

on. SCC is a National Junior College Athletic Association Division III school in Pinehurst, N.C. The Flyers are also members of Region X.  SCC was 25-7 and won the Region X tournament championship last year; the Flyers were 30-7 and  won the national title in 2011-12.
"We're excited about Ben joining our program," said SCC coach Mike Apple. "He's athletic and long. He also has a quick first step, and he can score. We're glad to have him."
Howser averaged 8.5 points and shot 41% from the floor his senior year. He shot 34% from behind the arc, he averaged 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.4 steals a game. Howser also blocked 16 shots and he shot 78% from the charity stripe. Howser scored a career-high 29 points against St. Stephens on January 23 in a school-record eight-overtime game at Lentz-Eggers Gym. The Indians beat WHS 103-98 in that record-setting game.
