Ryder Jones is proving the critics wrong---at least for now. Jones, who was taken by the San Francisco Giants in the second round (64th pick) of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft on June 6, is off to a

blistering start at the professional level.
Jones, the first Watauga High baseball player to be named North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year last spring, is hitting .417 in his first four professional games. He was 2-4 with a double, a walk, a run scored and he drove in a run Tuesday night as the Arizona League Giants defeated the AZL Royals 8-7 at Scottsdale Stadium in Scottsdale, AZ.
On the year, Jones is 5-12 with four runs scored, two doubles, a pair of walks and an RBI. Defensively, Jones, a third baseman, has made just one error in the field. The AZL Giants (13-2), who lead the Arizona League standings, play the AZL Indians Wednesday night.
