Bumgarner To Play In Mid-Summer Classic PDF Print

Madison Bumgarner of the San Francisco Giants has earned his first All-Star berth on Saturday, when he was named to the National League All-Star team by his manager Bruce Bochy, who will manage the National League in the Mid-Summer Classic at Citi Field in New York on Tuesday, July 16.  Bumgarner, who was 16-11 last

season, got off to a jack-rabbit start this year by winning his first three decisions. Despite a mini-slump in May, where he lost four of his next eight starts, Bumgarner is currently 8-5 with a 3.08 earned-run-average. In 111.0 innings pitched, the left hander has given up 38 earned runs and 33 walks with 107 strikeouts. He goes into the final week before the All-Star break having won four of his last five starts.  And he's been impeccable during that stretch.
Bumgarner has given up eight earned run in 33 innings with ten walks and 32 strikeouts. He bested the Colorado Rockies 5-2 in his last outing on June 30. The Hickory, N.C., native, who played at South Caldwell High School, went seven innings and gave up an earned run on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Bumgarner, who was selected by the Giants with the tenth pick in the first-round of the MLB Amateur Draft in 2007, is 44-35 in his career. He made his MLB debut with the Giants on September 8, 2009. He has two two World Series titles with the Giants in 2010 and 2012.
Jimmy Leyland of the Detroit Tigers will manage the American League. Chris Davis of the Baltimore Oriolies was the leading vote getter and will start for the AL. The Oriioles will have three starters in the all-star game.

The All-Star rosters run 35 players deep, but only 34 players for each team were announced today. The final spot is up for grabs via the Final Vote. Here's the ballot. Any starting pitchers who pitch Sunday, July 14, are not eligible to pitch in the All-Star Game itself, which will be played at Citi Field in New York on Tuesday, July 16. The Home Run Derby will be played the day before, the Futures Game the day before that. Joey Gallo and Jorge Alfaro of the Hickory Crawdads will play in the Futures Game.
All 30 teams get at least one representative in the All-Star Game. Keep in mind that injured players will be replaced on the rosters between now and then. Here are the full rosters of the MLB All-Star Game:
