Three members of the Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team - Maryann Hoskins, Haily Jarman and Jessica Fellmeth - were selected to the 2013 NCCSIA All-State College Division Softball First Team. NCCSIA is the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association.
Hoskins, a freshman pitcher from Havelock, N.C., was a first-team all-league honoree after finishing the year with a 17-8 record in addition to a 1.79 earned run average, 164 strikeouts and 10 shutouts.
Jarman, a junior third baseman from Wadesboro, N.C., finished second on the squad in batting average (.331) with seven home runs and 27 runs batted in. Jarman also led the squad in runs scored (33), hits (55), triples (five), total bases (92) and slugging percentage (.554) this past year.
Fellmeth, a senior first baseman from Waxhaw, N.C., earned all-state accolades for the third straight season after leading the Bears in batting average (.359), doubles (13), runs batted in (29) and slugging percentage (.497) in 2013.
Both Jarman and Fellmeth were All-SAC and All-Southeast Region honorees while each started all 53 games this year for Lenoir-Rhyne. In addition, Fellmeth was named the MVP of the league tournament.
All three players led Lenoir-Rhyne to a 37-16 record this past spring to go along with the team's fourth consecutive Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament Championship. L-R also hosted the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament and advanced to the regional finals.
Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.
