The 5th Annual Will Dicus Memorial Baseball Tournament was the most successful fund raiser to date. The WD Baseball tournament success directly relates to the fine work and assistance from the Watauga Parks and Rec Department. great big THANK YOU to you and your staff. We greatly appreciate the work you do in regards to making our tournament a tremendous success. Over 500 players participated in our tournament this year and we had record attendance of friends and family. We had teams from Va, Avery, Lenoir, Hudson, Wilkesboro, Ashe, etc attend our tournament. We feel like the attendance of these players, family and friends was a very positive economic impact on the Watauga Community. 10 Watauga teams , representing over 120 Watauga kids participating in the WD Tournament. The Watauga players could stay home and play ball !!! We could not have done without you, your staff and maintenance group. Thank you, Thank you and again, I want to say Thank you.
Our continued goal is to give back to the community as much as possible. Our primary project is the Building project of the Will Dicus Memorial indoor Training facility for Softball and Baseball at Watauga High school. To date, approximately $50,000 has been raised in private funds to construct the indoor facility for the Watauga Baseball and softball programs that was budget was cut during construction of the new High school. We will be making another donation to the fund in a few weeks. As you know, Pete Hardee has helped develop more kids in his tenure than any other active coach at WHS and helped WHS kids get college scholarships. Many of the kids would never had gone to college without scholarship relief for them and Pete works with the young ball players to get them in college. We all hope to see the day when we can construct the building and repair the baseball field into a playable condition(field turf) for the kids. This past year was a terrible experience for our softball and Baseball players. Hopefully we can work towards getting the indoor facility build in the name of Will Dicus and have our field available to play games and practice.
We appreciate Mr Gasperson, Board of Commissioners and Tom Wright for their continued support of our fund raising efforts. With everyone’s efforts, we can make is happen.
