Hardee, Region 7 Come Up Short In Opener PDF Print

The Powerade State Games of North Carolina officially got underway on Wednesday night in Charlotte. Baseball highlighted the competition with North Carolina defeating South Carolina 6-5 in the Showcase game at UNC-Charlotte.
The high school tournament got underway on Thursday. Watauga High baseball coach Pete Hardee is the head coach of the Region 7 team that consists of players from Alleghany, Ashe, Wilkes, Surry, Yadkin, Davie, Iredell, Alexander, Catawba, Caldwell, Burke, Avery and Watauga Counties.
UNC-Charlotte and Hopewell High School will be hosting the tournament, which concludes on Sunday. Region 7 dropped a 6-4 decision to Region 4 in its opening game Thursday. Region 7 will play Region 1 today at 10 a.m., at UNCC; Region 7 wraps up pool play against Region 6 Saturday night at 7 p.m., at UNCC.
The consolation games will be played Sunday at Hopewell; the medal-round games will be played Sunday at UNCC. WHS does not have any players competing in the State Games this year.
