Appalachian State University women's soccer sophomore Julia Holz was named to the NCCSIA (North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association) all-state squad as a second-team selection in the University Division, the association announced Wednesday.
Holz, who led the Mountaineers with eight goals and 18 points during the 2012 campaign, was named as a first team all-Southern Conference selection after finishing fourth in the league in goals and leading the Apps to a 10-8-1 record, the squad's best season since finishing 10-6-3 in 2007.
The forward also earned SoCon Player of the Week honors after scoring two goals and notching an assist in a 4-2 win over UNC Asheville on Sept. 14. In addition, Holz was one of two Mountaineers named to College Sports Madness' all-SoCon squad.
Holz scored five of her eight goals during league play including game-winning goals against Georgia Southern and Wofford. She wrapped up her first two seasons in the High Country with 13 career goals, good for eighth all-time in Appalachian State History.
