Five members of the Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team earned 2012 NCCSIA All-State College Division accolades. NCCSIA is the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association. Of the five, four Bears were picked to the first team: senior goalkeeper Caitlin Scruggs (Torrance, Calif.), senior midfielder Carley Griffin (Fresno, Calif.), sophomore midfielder Hanna Kiebel (Parker, Colo.) and freshman defender Brianna Belsky (Egg Harbour Township, N.J.).
Scruggs, a first-team all-conference and all-region pick, tallied the ninth-best goal-against average in the nation (0.49) and third-best save percentage (0.889) in the country in addition to eight shutouts and 72 saves during the year.
Griffin earned all-state honors for the second straight season and finished with two goals and five assists on the year while Kiebel totaled five goals, four assists and 14 points in 2012. Both players were All-SAC and All-Southeast Region honorees.
Belsky, who started all 20 games for the Bears in 2012, was an all-conference, all-region and honorable mention All-American. Belsky scored three goals and dished out five assists as a defender and anchored a defense that allowed just 11 goals all season.
Freshman forward Leah Mullins (Kissimmee, Fla.) was a second-team all-state pick after leading the squad in goals scored (13) and total points (29) this year. Mullins' accolades last fall included All-South Atlantic Conference and NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region laurels to go along with Food Lion SAC Tournament MVP and conference freshman-of-the-year honors.
All five players led Lenoir-Rhyne to a 16-2-2 record this past fall in addition to the team's third consecutive South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Championship. The Bears also won the Food Lion SAC Tournament and earned a trip to the NCAA Division II Playoffs.
Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.
Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina.
