Verizon Store Smashed in Sunday Incident PDF Print

The Verizon Store in the Gateway Center on US 421 in Boone, operated by High Country Wireless, was hit late Sunday afternoon by a vehicle that slammed into the front, the suspect then floored the vehicle, spinning tires to back out, then fled the scene, leaving a trail of broken glass all the way out of the parking lot and onto 421.  While the Verizon store was closed, patrons and operators of the Plan 9 Comic store next door stepped out to see what was going on, and were threatened by the man in the car, according to Ross Byers, who said all he could see was the rear of the car, which he then spun wheels and managed to dislodge from the wreckage of the front of the store.  Byers and the store clerk described the older white sedan involved, and said she locked the door after the man threatened them. Boone Fire shut off the power to the store, but found no fire, while Boone Police and Watauga Deputies searched the Perkinsville area for the suspect vehicle from the 4:40pm incident.  So far, no arrest has come.
