Appalachian State University head women’s basketball coach Darcie Vincent announced the addition of Lanica Williams-Tallon as an assistant coach on Thursday.
“We are extremely excited to have Lanica join our App State Family. Her experience as a head coach will be invaluable in our efforts to develop strong leaders as well as her knowledge with game strategies,” said Vincent.
“In addition, her energy level and desire to better the game will be a tremendous asset in teaching the game.”
Williams-Tallon joins the Mountaineers after serving as Assistant Athletic Director and head women’s basketball coach at the Apprentice School in Hampton, Virginia, where she helped lead the Lady Builders to a record 23 wins and a United State Collegiate Athletic Association Nationals berth in 2013.
“I immediately fell in love with the campus and family atmosphere among the players and athletics staff,” said Williams-Tallon.
“The university’s standard for academic and athletic excellence is second to none. Darcie has also proven herself to be a true winner. Her competitive drive and passion for coaching student-athletes on the court and in life is what drew me in. I cannot describe the excitement I feel to be part of this women’s basketball program!”
While at Apprentice School, Williams-Tallon led the Lady Builders to three USCAA national championship bids, while coaching three USCAA All- Americans, five honorable mention USCAA All-Americans, and two USCAA All-Academic selections. She was responsible for guard development and academic enhancement, in addition to overseeing the women’s basketball budget, film exchange, and team travel.
Williams-Tallon is actively involved outside of coaching basketball, serving as a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association, USCAA Coaches Poll, and USCAA All-American Selection Committee, while participating in the Apprentice School Continuous Improvement Team, which strives to create solutions targeted to enhance the effectiveness and overall success of The Apprentice School.
