The Lees-McRae College men's and women's cross country teams will run a competitive meet calendar this fall, competing in three NCAA Division I events
and several of the most challenging races in the region, announced head coach Ley Fletcher with the release of the 2013 schedule Thursday.
The Bobcats are primed for a strong season, returning much of last year's squad while bringing in a deep and talented recruiting class.
The men's team led by seniors Michael Davis (Independence, Va.) and Tyler Dunn (Jasper, Ga.), and boosted by the return of Zach Cummings (Duncan, S.C.), Jordan Meyer (Inman, S.C.), Nate Weston (Billings, Mont.), and Gabriel Tobias (Caldwell, N.C.), the Bobcats will look to capitalize on a wealth of depth and youth in their quest for the program's fifth Conference Carolinas Championship.
The women's team is primed for a strong season, returning much of last year's squad while bringing in a deep and talented recruiting class. Led by senior Heather Peterman (Buford, Ga.) and juniors Katherine and Emily Shields (Salisbury, N.C.), the Bobcats will look to capitalize on a wealth of depth and youth in their quest for the program's ninth Conference Carolinas Championship.
Lees-McRae is set to kick off the season on September 6, traveling to Johnson City, Tenn. to take part in the Buffalo Stampede at Buffalo Valley Golf Course. Fletcher and the Bobcats travel to Asheville, N.C. for the UNC Asheville Invitational on September 14, and then make the trip to Charlotte, N.C. for the UNC Charlotte Invitational on September 28 after a two-week furlough.
The Bobcats will get a preview of the course for the Conference Carolinas Championships on October 4, traveling to Concord, N.C. for the Pre-Conference Meet before taking part in Appalachian State University's Blue Ridge Open on October 18 in Boone, N.C. Lees-McRae then returns to Concord a week later for the Conference Carolinas Championships on October 25.
Fletcher and the Bobcats will make the trek back to Charlotte on November 9 for the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships, and if all goes well, travel to Spokane, Washington for the NCAA Division II National Championships two weeks later on November 23 to close out the season.
