The Lenoir-Rhyne Football Team, fresh off its second consecutive South Atlantic Conference Championship, has announced its schedule for the 2013 season. Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Wingate in its South Atlantic Conference opener on September 21 at 7:00 p.m. L-R also entertains Brevard (October 5 at 2:00 p.m.) on Homecoming, Newberry (October 19 at 2:00 p.m.) for the annual Bishops' Trophy and Carson-Newman (November 2 at 2:00 p.m.) in an annual showdown between two league powers.
Carson-Newman (9-3) advanced to the NCAA Division II National Quarterfinals after ending L-R's season with a 38-35 win in a second round playoff game in Jefferson City, Tenn. Lenoir-Rhyne finished the year with a 9-3 record in 2012 and earned its first berth to the playoffs in 50 years last fall.
L-R also won its first postseason contest since 1962 with a 21-6 win over Fort Valley State at home in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs before falling in the second round to the Eagles.
