It appears that no new Walgreens Drug Store will be constructed near downtown Boone in the near future, that after a full house public hearing last night at the Boone Town Council chambers. In a four-hour hearing of the Boone Board of Adjustments, a unanimous vote turned down the proposal from Avenue D Development for the pharmacy and retail store at King Street across from the Daniel Boone Inn and next to Grace Lutheran Church. The board cited in their decision that the project would  not be in general conformity with the town’s comprehensive plan and blend with the small town nature of the downtown area. The room was filled beyond legal capacity with those interested in the proposal, with several expressing concerns about traffic at the spot where four lanes become two, while others spoke to support more local businesses over the large corporation. In the end, it was a unanimous denial vote from the planning board that ends that particular proposal for that parcel, currently occupied by Green Mother Goods and the former Bark Phone store location.
