The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Lacrosse Team (7-9) ended its 2013 season with a 17-13 setback to No. 10 Florida Southern (11-3) Wednesday evening at Moretz Stadium.
The Moccasins were led by Caitlin Chase (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and Danielle LaDuca (Webster, N.Y.) with four goals each in the victory. Chase also added a match-high five assists. Sophomore Lauren Donovan (Hollywood, Md.) scored four times as well while senior Sarah Minick (Marietta, Ga.) added three goals and three assists in the losing effort for the Bears. Lenoir-Rhyne also ended the year facing four consecutive teams ranked in the top 10 nationally.
A score by Minick with 3:54 remaining before halftime gave L-R a 7-6 advantage but Florida Southern responded with seven straight goals over both periods to take control. L-R tried to rally by scoring four of the match's final five goals but time ran out as the Bears suffered their fourth straight loss.
In goal for the Moccasins, Katie Hammerer (California, Md.) earned the win as she stopped 18 shots on the night. Freshman Claire Wach (Cary, N.C.) added three goals while junior goalkeeper Amanda Cotto (Fort Myers, Fla.) suffered the loss for the Bears, who did hold the advantage in both shots taken (35-28) and ground balls (34-22) in the setback.
Florida Southern faces second-ranked Limestone in its season finale on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m., on the road in Gaffney, S.C.
