Pioneers Compete At Tri-Cities Meet PDF Print

The Watauga High boy's and girl's track teams produced 23 top-ten finishers on Saturday at the Tri-Cities Classic in Johnson City, TN. The WHS girls had 13 top-ten finishers; the WHS boys had ten. The girl's 4x400-meter relay team (Savannah Drummonds, Clare Harris, Doria Kosmala, and Belle Lehmann) turned in WHS' best effort of the day by finishing second in 4:22.40. The distance relay team (Darby Middlebrook, Lily Weeks and Lynde Wangler) finished third in 13:29.45. Madison Harman finished third in the girl's two mile 11:55.94; Alison Seramur turned in a third-place finish in the girl's pole vault with an effort of nine feet.
Taylor Drummonds finished fourth in the girl's high jump (4-06) and WHS finished fourth in the girl's 4x100 relay (Harris, Drummonds, Carrie Pennell, and Grace Plyler) in 55.27. The WHS girls finished fifth with 47 points. The Pioneers finished well in front of western North Carolina rival, T.C. Roberson. The Rams were 21st with ten points. Science Hill won the meet with 153.50 points.
The WHS boys finished 12th with 25 points. Bryan Brackney had WHS' best showing of the day by finishing second in the boy's 800 (1:56.65). Josh Anderson had a fifth-place finish in the boy's two-mile race (10:01.48); the WHS A team (Anderson, Ryan Hellenbrand, Michael Holland, and Luke Johnson) finished fifth in the 4x800 relay (8:34.11). The WHS B team was ninth in 8:53.71. Spring Valley won the boy's meet with 106.50 points.
The Pioneers will travel to Lenior-Rhyne University for the Northwestern 3A/4A Conference championships Wednesday and Thursday. The Pioneers will host the High Country Track & Field Classic on May 4.
