Bears Hang On, Nip Lincoln Memorial, 8-7 PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball Team (19-28, 11-14) rallied from a four-run deficit to take an 8-7 win over Lincoln Memorial (21-22, 12-13) Friday afternoon in the first contest of a South Atlantic Conference weekend series at Hennon Field. L-R senior shortstop Dalton Hall (Hickory, N.C.) drove in four runs as the Bears came back to the win after being down by a 5-1 score. With the score tied at 8-8, senior designated hitter Rai Robinson (Kings Mountain, N.C.) drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning which scored sophomore outfielder Ivan Vieitez (Miami, Fla.).
Hall connected on a two-run single as part of a four-run fourth inning before hitting his second of two sacrifice flies in the eighth inning to tie the score at eight. L-R junior third baseman Frank Poerio (Gibsonia, Pa.) hit a solo home run, his first of the season, and finished with two RBI to lead the Bears offensively. David Martin was 1-2 with a run scored.
For Lincoln Memorial, Jacob West (Maryville, Tenn.) also hit a solo home run while Andre Rodriguez (Las Piedras, Puerto Rico) drove in two runs despite the loss. Lenoir-Rhyne senior Christian Hicks (Charlotte, N.C.) (3-4) pitched 4.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the while Josh Coker (Murphy, N.C.) fell to 1-4 after suffering the loss. Lincoln Memorial's starter, Brandon Cowan (Tequesta, Fla.), struck out 13 batters as well.
The two teams wrap up the South Atlantic Conference weekend series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m., in Harrogate, Tenn.
