Watagua High boy's and girl's track coach Randy McDonough has announced that senior Peter Vandenberg will walk on to run track and cross country at Appalachian State University next season.

Vandenberg, who has been slowed by a foot injury since the indoor track season during his junior year, was a state place finisher at the state cross country meet in 2011. Vandenberg finished eighth in 16:02 and made the All-State Team.
Vandenberg had also considered UNC-Greensboro among his college choices. Vandenberg will join his older brother, Andrew, who is currently a freshman at ASU; his father, Peter, had a great running career with the Mountaineers.
