L-R Softball Sweeps Lander On Senior Day PDF Print

The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (28-11) celebrated Senior Day in fine fashion with a doubleheader sweep of Lander (16-29), 5-0 and 8-2, Sunday afternoon at Bears Field. Game One - Lenoir-Rhyne 5, Lander0
L-R freshman Maryann Hoskins (Havelock, N.C.) threw a four-hit shutout to lead the Bears to the win. Hoskins (12-4) also struck out nine batters in picking up her eighth shutout on the season. L-R scored all of its runs in the fifth inning highlighted by two-run hits from freshman catcher Lauren Elder (Taylorsville, N.C.) and senior designated player Megan Laxton (Taylorsville, N.C.). Lander's M.K. Pegram (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) fell to 6-10 on the year after being tagged with the loss.
Game Two - Lenoir-Rhyne 8, Lander 2
Laxton hit two bases-clearing doubles and finished with six runs batted in to lead the Bears to the doubleheader sweep. Laxton's three-run doubles came in the first and fifth innings of play as Lenoir-Rhyne pushed its winning streak to four games.
Both of the Lady Bearcats' runs came in the third inning on run-scoring singles from Taylor Donson (Sarasota, Fla.) and Bethany Beggs (Lincolnton, Ga.). Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Brandi Hole (Sandy Ridge, N.C.) (15-7) earned the win after going the distance while Lander's Amanda Hamby (Belton, S.C.) (6-10) took the loss.
Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Tusculum in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader in its final home contest of the season on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
