Cleveland Has Record Day At Terrier Relays PDF Print

Rachelle Cleveland (Moyock, N.C.) set a pair of school records, including the top mark in the javelin competition, to pace the Lees-McRae College women's track and field team to a impressive showing at Wofford University's Terrier Relays on Saturday afternoon. Cleveland put together perhaps the best day of her career, winning the javelin throw with a school-record mark of 36.05 meters, while placing sixth in the shot put while establishing a new program-best mark of 11.58 meters. Jessica McEnaney (Cary, N.C.), Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.), Auburn Lowe (Swain County, N.C.), and Iesha Poindexter (Jetterville, Va.) combined to finish seventh in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 51.13 seconds, as Poindexter placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with a mark of 12.56 seconds.
McEnaney posted a mark of 13.48 seconds in the event, as Thornton and Miesha Thompson (Orlando, Fla.) turned in times of 16.20 and 17.99 seconds, respectively, in the 100-meter hurdles. Thornton placed eighth in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line with a time of 1:06.95.
Thompson, Lowe, Taryn Moorhead (Deer Park, Wash.) and Mallory Overholt (Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada) finished fourth in the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay with a mark of 4:53.19, as the quartet of McEnaney, Lowe, Overholt and Poindexter combined to place fifth in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:56.03.
Kortnie Curry (Lexington, N.C.) and Persephanie McRae (Brooklyn, N.Y.) claimed two of the top five spots in the high jump, finishing second and fourth, respectively, with marks of 1.59 and 1.54 meters. Moorhead placed 10th in the pole vault with a jump of 2.45 meters, as Curry and Lowe posted marks of 4.69 and 4.40 meters, respectively, in the long jump.
Kayla Frazier (Chesterfield, S.C.) placed 13th in the discus with a mark of 31.20 meters, as Genay Miller (Woodstock, Ga.) and Cleveland finished 16th and 18th, respectively, with throws of 28.26 and 28.00 meters. Jamara Cook (Claremont, N.C.) posted a mark of 36.81 meters to finish 10th in the hammer throw, while Frazier and Miller placed 16th and 18th, respectively, with tosses of 30.51 and 29.98 meters. Cook placed 15th in the shot put with a throw of 9.67 meters, as Frazier posted marks of 9.46 and 8.91 meters, respectively.
The LMC men were led by Brandon Williams (Raleigh, N.C.), who finished third in the 110-meter hurdles, and Tyler Dunn (Jasper, Ga.) placed second in the 1,500-meter run to lead the Lees-McRae College men's track and field team to a strong performance at the Terrier Relays on Saturday afternoon.
Dunn turned in the top finish of the day in the 1,500-meter run, placing second with a time of 4:09.04, as Matthew MacPhail (Spartanburg, S.C.) and Jordan Meyer (Inman, S.C.) posted marks of 4:28.50 and 4:57.84, respectively. Razhede Highsmith (Gastonia, N.C.) placed 13th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.25 seconds, while Joshua Soto (Aiken, S.C.) and Jarrett Gibson (Marietta, Ga.) finished 20th and 23rd, respectively. Williams posted perhaps his best performance of the day in the 110-meter hurdles, placing third with a mark of 15.53 seconds.
Soto and Highsmith teamed with Ian Harned (Pine Level, N.C.) and Michael Davis (Independence, Va.) to place second in the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay, combining for a time of 3:33.07. Williams, Highsmith, Gibson, and Soto finished fifth in the 4x100-meter relay, posting a time of 43.41 seconds.
Williams teamed with Gibson, Soto and Travis Burton (Newberry, S.C.) to finish fifth in the 4x200-meter relay, turning in a time of 1:29.54, as Dunn, MacPhail, Davante Scott (Hopkins, S.C.), and Gabriel Tobias (Lenoir, N.C.) placed seventh in the distance medley with a mark of 11:08.88.
Gibson placed 17th in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 23.43 seconds, while also teaming with Davis, Burton and Harned to finish eight in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:29.42. Burton and Justin Floyd (Newton, N.C.) placed 10th and 11th, respectively, in the high jump with marks of 1.90 and 1.75 meters.
Soto and Floyd posted marks of 6.04 and 5.70 meters, respectively, in the long jump, as Scott placed 16th in the triple jump with a combined leap of 11.72 meters. Ryan Trask (Cobleskill, N.Y.) finished 12th in the discus with a mark of 38.30 meters, as Devan Mackey (Hickory, N.C.) placed 11th in the hammer throw with a toss of 31.44 meters.
Dwight Gilzene (Charlotte, N.C.) and Mackey placed 12th and 14th, respectively, in the shot put, as Trask finished seventh in the javelin with a throw of 43.59 meters.
Lees-McRae returns to action on Friday, April 12 when the Bobcats travel to nearby Boone, N.C. to participate in the Appalachian State University Invitational.
