Appalachian State University senior Jared Stalling has been named as the Southern Conference Field Athlete of the Month for March, the league office announced Friday. Stalling, who currently possesses the SoCon's top marks in the discus, hammer and shot put, posted nine top-three finishes at four meets last month including a sweep of all three events at the Beaches vs. Mountains Meet last weekend.
The defending SoCon champion in both the shot put and discus throw, Stalling set a new personal record of 17.04 meters (55-11) in the shot put at the Wake Forest Open on March 15 and surpassed his previous career-best with a toss of 52.73 meters (173-0) in the discus at the High Point VertKlasse Meeting on March 22.
Stalling currently ranks second in the discus and fourth in the shot put in Appalachian State history while also holding down the fifth-place spot in the hammer throw. He will return to action on Friday when the Mountaineers open the Auburn Tiger Classic, which concludes on Saturday afternoon.
