Avery Middle Schooler Airlifted After Accident PDF Print

A Cranberry Middle School 8th grader was injured—his arm sliced badly—in an accident at the old football field at Cranberry Middle School during lunchtime yesterday. Fortunately, the young teen was in an easy location for WINGS Air Rescue to land and transport him to the Johnson City Medical Center. Avery Superintendent David Burleson said yesterday that several teens found the sheet metal on the old football field at the school, and somehow the teen cut his arm.  First responders and those at the scene improvised a tourniquet to try to stop the flow of blood from the wound while additional fire units set up the landing zone. WINGS was on the scene and lifted off in short order, but Burleson said the injury was not as serious as first thought due to the amount of bleeding.
