With his complete game five-hitter against Wofford on Saturday, junior right-hander Sam Angew-Wieland earned Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week honors for games played between March 25-31, announced by the league office on Monday.
Agnew-Wieland tossed this first complete game of any Mountaineer starter of the season, giving up just five hits and striking out ten Terrier hitters. The junior began the game with four-straight strikeouts as he outdueled Wofford’s Jesse Morris. The right-hander is now 4-2 on the season and is tied for third in the SoCon in wins, trailing teammate Jamie Nunn with five.
The Mountaineers return to action on Tuesday, as they visit Eastern Kentucky for a non-conference battle. First pitch from Turkey Hughes Field is set for 3 p.m.
