The Town of Boone has issued an apology for its part in a wreck Monday a week ago that claimed the life of a Boone woman. Their release said the town “would like to express our deepest regret for the accident that occurred the evening of Monday, March 25 on Blowing Rock Road involving a Town vehicle.”  Reinald Gomez, 57, was struck by the scraper blade of the truck driven by 51-year-old Robert Rominger of Zionville, working for the town, after it lost brakes working to clear snow off of University Hall, careening out into Blowing Rock road where it struck the SUV of Liliana Arias of Boone.  The release went on to say, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Ms. Gomez due to the injuries sustained from the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved and their families during this difficult time. The event is under investigation by the North Carolina Highway Patrol as well as the Town’s insurance carrier, and the Town is cooperating during this process to determine the cause of this tragic event.”
